Litro NY

image

Last month I accepted the position of online fiction editor at LitroNY, the U.S. online offshoot of Litro, a literary, arts and culture magazine based in the UK. I’ve been reading Litro for a few years now and published a short story called “The Fall of Berlin (Oil on Canvas)” in a special themed issue on Germany. So far I’ve published stories by Lou Gallo and James Reich and have accepted a few more. Right now I’m scheduling new stories every week but would like to increase that. What am I looking for? Here’s my introduction but for an online reading experience I generally like dense fictions if they’re short (less than 1,000) and a more sparse style if the story is long (over 2,500). So check it out and send me something slick, brutal and weird…

Forest of Fortune at Barnes & Noble

I’ll be participating in Barnes & Noble Discovery Weekend with a Forest of Fortune book signing on Saturday November 22 at 2pm at the Barnes Noble at Trolley Square in Santee. The bookstore is bringing in a ton of great local writers, including Matt Coyle, whose book Yesterday’s Echo won the Best Debut Novel award at Bouchercon 2014 in Long Beach last weekend. Also, immediately before my signing at 2pm, there will be a puppet making workshop and holiday singalong in case your nightmares needed more material to work with this holiday season.

Forest of Fortune at CSUN

Citizens of the San Fernando Valley, I’ll be reading on the CSUN campus tonight as part of the professional reading series hosted by the Creative Writing Circle. If you’re near Northridge, come on by or drop me a line. Refreshments will be served.

UPDATED: Had a really great time at CSUN last night with the Creative Writers Circle. Because CSUN is a commuter school, students interested in creative writing have carved out a niche for themselves and built their own community. These things are just as crucial to the life of a writer as reading and, you know, actually writing. Because my path was not a traditional one, it’s inspiring to see young writers who get it. Really grateful to be a part of the Creative Writers Circle community, with a special thank you to Danielle Orozco for handling all the details. I look forward to seeing these writers again as they move beyond the classroom and into the literary community at large.

Lit Crawl LA: NoHo

it I’ll be reading at The Rumpus presents A Scream Without a Mouth: Stories of Reaching Out on Wednesday October 22 at the North Hollywood Arts Center. The event takes place at 8pm sharp and features Antonia Crane, Corrie Greathouse, Douglas Kearney, Wendy Ortiz, Kyle Sawyer, Jerry Stahl and yours truly. I had a great time at this event last year and I’m thrilled to be a participant this year.

UPDATE: A Scream Without a Mouth received a mention in this very nice write up in the Los Angeles Times.
